NwaSoul (pronounced Nu-ah-Sol) is a Boston-based music collective known for its powerful fusion of jazz, soul, rock, hip-hop, and African rhythms—music the band describes as esoteric, spiritual, and deeply rooted in ancestral connection. Founded in 2012 by bassist and composer Bobby “Boushe” Etienne, NwaSoul brings together tradition and innovation to create immersive live experiences centered on healing, balance, and unity.

The name NwaSoul reflects Etienne’s Haitian heritage, combining noir (black) and sol (sun) to symbolize the coming together of opposites—past and present, rhythm and melody, spirit and sound. Anchored by Etienne’s bass and the soulful lead vocals of Malaya Tina Watson, the group features a rotating lineup of elite musicians drawn from Boston’s vibrant jazz and creative music community.

NwaSoul’s performances are known for their emotional depth, dynamic grooves, and communal energy. Whether reimagining original compositions or channeling improvised moments, the band invites listeners into a shared space of reflection and movement. In addition to frequent performances across Boston, NwaSoul has held notable residencies, collaborated with organizations such as BAMS Fest, and continues to release new music, including the single “Not For Nothing.”

Every other Wednesday night at Wally’s Cafe Jazz Club, NwaSoul transforms the room into a late-night sanctuary—where rhythm, spirit, and community meet.
