The Ezekiel Freeman Group showcases the energy and creativity of Boston’s new wave of jazz talent, led by drummer and bandleader Ezekiel Freeman. Known for his ability to lead from the drum kit, Freeman guides his ensembles through performances that honor jazz tradition while embracing contemporary improvisation and fresh musical ideas.
Deeply embedded in Boston’s historic jazz community, Freeman is a regular late-night presence at Wally’s Cafe Jazz Club—a legendary incubator for emerging artists connected to Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory. His group features a rotating lineup of some of the city’s top young instrumentalists, creating a dynamic, collaborative environment where each performance feels spontaneous and alive.
At Wally’s, the Ezekiel Freeman Group delivers late-night sets driven by strong swing, interactive improvisation, and collective momentum. Every other Wednesday, these sessions bring together musicians and listeners alike, continuing Wally’s long-standing tradition of fostering the next generation of jazz voices in an intimate, high-energy setting.
